Austin and I were sitting at the kitchen table eating lunch today. He goes "Mommy paint table?" I said, "Yeah, I painted the table. And I painted the cabinets and the walls." He points at the wall beside him "Mommy paint that wall?" I said "Yeah." Then he pointed at the ceiling, "Mommy paint sky?" "No, I didn't paint the ceiling."

Now he's trying to put himself into a shoebox. He said "Help me, Mommy." Such a goofball.

Pumpkin Patch Day

Austin's pre-school had their Pumpkin Patch Day yesterday. The kids dressed up and had a parade for the parents. As you can tell from the pictures, the kids were extremely thrilled to be wearing costumes. Austin had a good time, though. He got to pick a pumpkin out of the pumpkin patch and go for a hay ride.

I've been doing a terrible job of keeping up with Austin's blog. And I don't keep a baby book for him, so I'm afraid I'll forget about things. Austin started going to preschool in September. He started out just going Monday and Wednesday, but I started a shop on Etsy, so he's going Monday- Thursday from 9am-1pm so I can work. I go between being in the red and being in the black weekly. Hopefully I'll be in the black and stay in the black soon.

Austin loves going to school, though. When I drop him off he goes right into his classroom and gets to work playing. He's a good little sharer and seems to do really well playing with the other kids. They get to play on the playground every day (weather permitting) and he does arts and crafts. He has already made me a few treasures. My favorite was "Night Creatures", which was an owl, bat and raccoon which Austin had scribbled over with a black crayon. I saw it and laughed and said "Nice coloring job." My favorite thing about him going to school (besides being able to get things done) is that he surprises me with new words. I was putting his jacket on him the other day and he said "Zip it, Mommy." I didn't know he knew the word "zip".

Austin is a sweet little boy who loves giving his mommy hugs and kisses. He is happy most of the time and still loves getting to hang out with his grandparents and aunts and uncles. He talks in caveman sentences "I eat pop-pop!" "Where Daddy go?" "I did it!". His favorite thing to say is "I did it!" He's totally obsessed with bikes. Rachel got him a little plastic two wheel bike that he just pushes with his feet. He can play on that thing all day long. He likes to ride it backwards down the driveway, which freaks Mommy out. He likes watching cartoons now. His favorite is Curious George. Every morning he says "I wanna see ooh-ooh". He also likes Elmo and Barney, too.

We are working on potty training. This morning he actually asked to sit on the potty and he went pee-pee. He likes to pee off the back deck like a little redneck baby. He calls Aunt Jennifer "Fe-Fe", Rachel is "Re-Re", Bryce is "Bebe" or "Bice", my mom is "Gimmie", both his grandpa's are "pop-pop" and Kennen's mom is "Nana".

His favorite things are bikes, trains, cars, sitting in cars, dogs, cats, horses, riding horses, riding dogs, watching bike stunts and crashes on Youtube, playing with Cade next door, playing with Maxx, going to Chick-fil-a to play on the playground, popsicles, Curious George, his grandparents, his aunts and uncles, his tunnel, trucks, and asking "What's that?" Oh, and asking if we're going to "Hobby Wobby".

14 months

I haven't been doing a great job of keeping up with the blog lately. Austin's 14 months old now! He started walking about 3 months ago and now he can get around a little too well. We had to put baby locks on all the cabinet doors. Not just so he couldn't get a hold of something that would hurt him, but so I wouldn't have to clean up pots and pans a million times a day. He still can't climb up onto furniture by himself, but he can climb off. He can climb up the stairs, but has a hard time getting back down them.

He isn't really talking - he can only say "up" but he understands a lot of what we say to him. If you tell him to give something to Charlie, or if you tell him to go get his milk, he'll do it. I can tell he's getting close to talking, though. He has little made up words. Like food or drink is all "Gaw!" And dogs are "daw!" He can give high-fives and repair broken cellphones. He HATES getting his diaper changed and once you get the dirty one off, he likes to run away and go pee somewhere.

He loves being around other little people, so we've been going to storytime on Tuesdays with his friend, Jake. Jake lives 2 doors down and is 3 1/2. They get along really well and Jake keeps an eye on Austin. In other words, he will rat him out.

Austin gets excited when his daddy comes home. He loves spending time with his grandparents and his Aunt Jen and Uncle Bryce. When either of them are around, that's who he wants to hold him. I guess they are the "cooler" version of his parents. Austin loves hanging out in his playroom and he likes to be read to. He loves going outside and chasing "Mr. Binx" around. He hates putting clothes on and he still hates getting his face or hands wiped off. But he doesn't mind a bath, most of the time. If you give him some bath crayons he'll hang out in there all day. Also, he'll eat the crayons, so be careful. He still likes to put things in his mouth. Maybe not quite as bad as he used to, but he still will put anything in his mouth. Dog food, paper, gross things he just found on the ground in public...

His playing has gotten more creative. The other day he was sticking his bottle into a measuring cup and then holding the measuring cup and tipping it up and drinking it. It reminded me of something that Jennifer would have done. He also got a hold of one of Kennen's pocket knives and was acting like it was a cellphone. (Don't worry the blade wasn't out) He knows that socks and shoes go on your feet. He likes to try and put them on himself. He knows to open the trash you put your foot on the lever.

He eats about anything now. His favorite foods are pasta, pretty much any kind of fruit, Goldfish, cheese, cookies, ice cream, and he'll actually eat carrots and broccoli. He sleeps through the night (as long as he's not teething or sick). He goes to bed about 8:30 and wakes up around 8am. Every once in a while, if I'm lucky, he might sleep until 9am. He takes a nap about 1pm for about an hour. Cleaning, cooking and getting things done is still a challenge. Austin has to be in the right mood. Some days he's in a "I have to be held" mood and then it's impossible to get much done. But it's a lot easier than it used to be.

I haven't been doing a good job of keeping up with the blog lately. Austin will be 1 year old in less than 3 months!!! I can't believe it! Lately, he's been crawling around like a mad man. He can get moving pretty fast. He likes to chase after the dogs. He's also been pulling up and cruising using the furniture. I think he'll be walking in the next month or two.

He loves to laugh and he loves to make other people laugh. He's been sticking out his tongue when we do and he's got a couple funny faces that he likes to make. He's a happy little boy and likes to smile at strangers at the grocery store. He gets more and more fun everyday.

Austin is crawling!!

Austin has been working on crawling for a while now. Today he finally really crawled on all fours. Until today he's kinda been doing a combination of moves- dragging himself on his stomach, rolling and catapulting himself forward once he's gotten on all fours. Here's a video of him working on his crawling skills. At the end he finally crawls on all fours when presented with his favorite toy - my cellphone.

I'm watching Marvin while Jen and Jeremy are in Florida. Within about 2 hours of him being here he had peed in 4 places (that I know of). So, I said "Guess what Marvin. Now this is going to happen." I put a diaper on him and surprisingly he hasn't tried to take it off. I just take it off of him and let him go outside and then when he comes back in I put it back on. He really doesn't seem to mind. I would have tried it earlier, but I thought for sure he'd try and bite it off.

We went to Los Osos, California this past weekend for Kennen's Uncle Jim's memorial. Austin and I had never been to California before. We had a really good trip. Austin was really good the whole time. I was worried that all the traveling, him not being on his usual schedule and the fact that his first tooth had just broke through were going to make it a rough trip.

I was trying to eat a sandwich and Austin was throwing a fit. I threw a piece of my crust at Charlie and he caught it in his mouth. Austin immediately quit crying and switched to giggling. My dad and Melody came to visit about a week and a half ago. We had a good time while they were here. There were multiple trips to Publix for Wheatables (of course), and they got to enjoy some Chick-fil-a and Mori House. Everybody worked on getting their guns "freakishly large" at Bodyplex. We went to the mall on Friday and Oldman got Nano Vapor for 50 cents (it was about to expire). He spent the rest of the weekend talking about needing to "clean out" the other GNCs. He said he was willing to have all their Nano Vapor shipped back to Vermont. Oldman got to drink margaritas and heckle me at my tennis match Friday evening. We ALMOST won... well, we were winning at first. The weather was really nice on Saturday, so we cooked out and had turkey burgers.

Popsy hadn't seen Austin since January and Melody hadn't seen him since November. They were pretty excited to see him and refused to put him down. They'd only hand him over to me so I could feed him. I think I only changed like one diaper while they were here. It was nice to get a break.

This cute little guy slept through the night on Monday for the first time. He slept for almost 12 hours straight. It was amazing. I woke up twice to go check on him, though...

Also, Austin is now saying "da da". He doesn't mean anything when he says it. He just likes to say it, over and over again.

Last Friday evening I realized that Austin was running a little bit of a fever. I gave him some tylenol and put him to bed. He kept waking up every hour or two, so I knew he wasn't feeling very well. I've called the doctor before about him running a fever and they just went through a list of things to look for. He really didn't have any symptoms other than the fever. At about 4:30 am I took his temperature again, because I could tell he was burning up. His temperature was 103. Kennen and I got scared and decided to take him to the emergency room. After two hours and $150 later we found out he might have a cold. I don't regret taking him to the ER, though. He was really cranky the next day and even after giving him tylenol every 4 hours he was still running a fever. I would have just worried all weekend if we hadn't taken him. Poor little guy was not himself. I don't think he smiled once on Saturday and he wouldn't eat any baby food. It's really draining taking care of a sick infant. It made me really grateful that I have an otherwise healthy little boy.

We had really nice weather this weekend, so we finally got to spend some time outside. Saturday we hung out and took pictures while Daddy waxed the cars. Then we went to spend the night with Nana (Nancy) and Grandpa (Jack). Mommy and Daddy went out for the evening and Austin got to stay up past his bedtime and hang out with his grandparents. Sunday we spent the day in downtown Marietta walking around.

I went to the mall with my mom and sister and left Austin with Kennen. I told Kennen to feed Austin some applesauce while I was gone. I knew that things were probably going to get messy and wasn't surprised that Kennen had to change Austin's outfit. But, apparently, Kennen let Austin pick out his own outfit. When I got back he was wearing a striped shirt and plaid shorts (it was like 40 degrees outside). He also had applesauce in his eyebrows.

Austin got to meet his second cousin, Jenna Schindler, and her little boy and Austin's third cousin (?), Robert Shockey. They flew down from West Virginia and spent a week with us while Kennen was in Atlantic City. We took them to Athens to see Jennifer, Chuck E. Cheese, Chick-fil-a, our favorite sushi restaurant, the mall and the park. We had a pretty fun week and I'm glad that they came to visit.

Austin has been changing fast in the last week. Since last Saturday, he pretty much sleeps through the night. He'll sleep for about 7 straight hours, he eats and then goes back to bed for another 3 or 4 hours. And just in time because I was about to go insane! No more waking up every 2 or 3 hours!!!!

He wore tennis shoes for the first time last night, but he was pretty quick to kick them off. Probably one of the coolest changes - he laughs now! This morning his dad was laying in bed playing with him. He tickled Austin and Austin let out a few laughs. I was so excited. He's been smiling for about a month now, but no laughing. It was so cool to hear him laugh. He's really growing up fast!

First Plane Trip

It was in the 30s and 40s up there, so we got Austin this little bear suit to make sure he was warm. I probably should have got him one size bigger. I think he's going to outgrow it soon.

Finally, Austin is smiling, and it's not gas! He's so sweet.

For about the past week he's been sleeping for about 4 hours at a time at night. I'm really hoping that by about 3 months he'll be sleeping through the night. Please!

First Tailgate

Austin went to his first UGA tailgate. It was the GA vs. LSU game. I think he had a pretty good time. He got a lot of attention and everyone wanted to hold him. I doubt we'll make it to another game this year, though.

Austin is 5 weeks old now. His neck has gotten a lot stronger, he can hold his wobbly little head up on his own for a little while and he's staying awake a lot longer than he was in the first couple of weeks. For the most part, he's a good little boy, but if he's awake then he wants to be held ALL the TIME. It's making it really hard for me to get anything done. The last time we went to the pediatrician he was up to 9 lbs 4 oz and was 22 inches long. He's waking up about every 3 or 4 hours at night. Sometimes every 2 hours. I can't remember the last time I slept for 6 straight hours... I can't wait for that day.

I was scheduled to be induced Sept. 8, but I started having contractions at 5:30am on my own. The hospital called me at 6am and told me to be there by 7am, so I got Kennen up and he had about 3 minutes to get ready. (He was a little upset about that.) He had been up late the night before (too excited to sleep) and I didn't want to wake him up before I had to. Thankfully, we already had the car packed up.

We got to the hospital and I still had to fill out some paperwork. I think they had me in the bed by about 8am. They wanted to wait to give me the epidural until I was 4cm dilated. Everything's kind of a blur, but I think I got the epi around 10am or so. Then we just had to wait until I was 10cm dilated so I could start pushing. After a couple hours I realized I could completely feel my right side. They ended up having to redo my epidural. I was supposed to be taking a nap, so I'd be ready to go when it came time to push. But the epi gave me the shakes and Crazy Pants wasn't making it easy to take a nap. She was on her phone, and talking, and going in and out of the room. I kept threatening to kick her out.

I started pushing around 4:30pm. Finally, after a really LONG day Austin made his appearance at 7:42pm. I think he's always going to run late, just like Daddy. As soon as he was out they cleaned him off and set him on my chest. I was so relieved that all that was over with and I could finally see my little boy that I had been waiting to hold for the past 41 weeks. At first I thought he had brown eyes and looked like Oldman. Now that he's 6 days old I think he looks a lot like Kennen and his eyes are a weird dark blue/purple color. I think they will turn brown. I've already taken a ton of pictures of him. I'll post them, don't worry.

Kennen's parents hosted a family shower for us a couple weeks ago. His Aunt Pam and Uncle Rob were in town. These are some of the pictures from the shower/cookout.

This is a Christening gown that Kennen's grandmother made for her grandchildren. She passed it down to us.

I was about to leave to get my nails done, when I noticed that there was a trail of paint on the hardwood going from the basement stairs to the bathroom. Kennen had been painting the night before, so I thought that he must have gotten some paint on his socks. I was a little irritated, but I was in a hurry so, I grabbed my purse and headed down to the basement - and that's when I saw...

At some point, Charlie had gone down to the basement and knocked over a can of paint (yeah, I should have put the lid on tighter). He managed to only step in the paint with one back paw. There were little "Who paw" prints from the spill, on the tile we just put down, up the basements stairs, through the hallway, to the bathroom. Thankfully, Charlie spared my new rug and white couches. We had to let the huge puddle dry for a few days, but it ended up peeling up. Charlie is definitely getting me prepared for having a baby.

Morgan Harris and Jennifer Thurmond did a good job throwing me a baby shower - we didn't even have to play any games. The original plan was to have the party at my house so everyone could see the nursery, but Friday night our air conditioner broke - again. I had to call everyone Saturday morning and let them know that it moved to my mom's house.

I got lots of useful and cute gifts, as you can see from the pictures below. One of the most useful - the pee pee tee pee's that Morgan got me.

We've started decorating the nursery. The furniture is going to be black, the bedding is black and white toile and I'm going to do sage green accents. Also, he likes frogs - FYI.

Kennen put up chair rail and is in the process of painting, as you can see. We still have a lot of work to do, but I wanted to give everyone a sneak preview.

This isn't my nursery, but I just wanted to show a picture of the bedding.

20 Week Ultrasound

As you can tell from the first picture, Kennen was very concerned that everything was "copasetic". He made sure to count all the fingers and toes and make sure everything was there. When the ultrasound tech told us we were having a boy, I looked over at Kennen's face. He lit up and was like "Really?". It made his day.

I couldn't help myself, I had to go shopping as soon as I found out that he was a boy! Grandma Crazy Pants got him the UGA pajamas with matching booties and a blanket.

It's taken a while, but I'm finally starting to show. I'm still wearing a pair of my pre-pregnancy jeans. I'm really trying hard not to go out and buy some maternity jeans. I went to Old Navy a few weeks ago and tried some on. I don't have much of a butt in the first place, but they really weren't very flattering. I'm having to wear a belly band with my work pants. I'm hoping the weather gets nice soon so I can just wear dresses and skirts.

I've been able to feel the baby moving around and kicking lately. That started about a week ago. Every once in a while he/she kicks hard enough that it startles me.

Next week we get to find out the gender. I really have no idea what it's going to be. I've had dreams about both. A girl would be fun because I really want to buy a UGA cheerleading uniform. But a boy would be fun because I could dress him as Kennen's little clone. We're going to be super excited either way! I plan on going to register right after the doctor's appointment so I won't be too tempted to go out and buy a bunch of stuff.
